You know all my life I've been poured into... Countless bible studies, Youth group gatherings, and meetings with older wiser people grasping their advice. Teachers always putting in their two cents about life and giving advice. Its been a blessing honestly but, now that I am in this next chapter or book of life it seems the college kid is forgotten. Not many churches I know of have a solid program for college age kids. Not that this is the time in our life where we have to make big decisions and find our who we are or anything. Its kind of like here is what our youth group is doing and here are our adult programs. Us college kids are in the awkward stage where we are claiming our adult hood when its convenient but still calling home to figure out how to use a utility knife (Yes that happened to me...).
All through high school I was taught what kind of high school girl God called me to be. I was taught about modesty (School dress code helped with that A LOT), what kind hobbies and interest were acceptable, I had countless people and a whole church backing me up, watching what I was doing, and constantly encouraging and inspiring me on a daily basis.
I was told what NOT to do in college like drink, have sex, stay up to late, and only eat french fries, but I was never told what TO do to have a successful Christ filled college experience. College is a happening place and the pressure to give into society is great. I was told to stand firm in my faith, find a church, and read my bible. Something that is hard to do when you don't have a church that feels like home, when you meet all different kind of people with different beliefs, your schedule is crazy, and when Mom and Dad aren't there to tell you when you need an attitude check. So whats a college girl to do?
Thanks to a good friend back home I am currently reading a devotional book called "Make College Count". I've only gotten 2 pages in and it has gotten me thinking inspiring this blog post. So as I learn from this book and all God is doing in my life I hope to be able to share with you too. So maybe if your a college kid like me trying to live your life for christ in a way that's pleasing to him we can learn together.
